After success in 2017, approximately 7,000 Austrian pensioners will gradually descend on Cyprus over the coming weeks for the second year.

The pensioners are members of the Austria Pensioners Federation (PVO), and their trip to Cyprus is organised by a subsidiary of the Austrian Socialist Party in cooperation with the Cyprus Tourism Organisation (CTO).

The current program began at the end of March and will last until May with the group residing mostly in the Agia Napa/Protaras area. The pensioners will visit the various regions of Cyprus, enjoying the opportunity of seeing the island in the spring.

This program actively contributes to the promotion of Cyprus in the Austrian market, since the visitors are accompanied by local newspaper and radio journalists, as well as other officials.

The visit to the island by the same group last year was beneficial, stimulating the tourist market during the off-season period, and promoting Cyprus in the Austrian market. For 2017 the number of visitors amounted to 6,972 people while a total of 14,000 Austrian travellers are expected to visit the island as a whole during the 2017-2018 period.

The success achieved in the first year and the good start to the second proves, says the CTO, once again the ability of Cyprus to host tourism throughout the year. The ability to offer a range of activities aimed at different market segments other than the sun and sea.
